ILS Proton Launch of AMC-9 Postponed
Launch of the AMC-9 satellite has been delayed by about 30 days after last Saturday’s planned lift-off was postponed due to a technical problem with a component on the Proton rocket intended to carry the satellite into orbit.
The problem that caused the delay was detected during pre-launch verification activities at the launch pad in Kazakhstan. The anomaly either will require replacement or reworking and neither task can be performed while the rocket is on the launch pad. As a result, the launcher will have to be unstacked, said officials with International Launch Services (ILS), a marketer of commercial missions for the Proton.
Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center and ILS will announce a new launch date as soon as the component is repaired or replaced. The AMC-9 satellite is to be used by Princeton, N.J.-based SES AMERICOM.
