Stanford University and QuakeFinder are developing a satellite that will detect earthquake activity in California by monitoring a network of ground-based sensors. The micro-satellite, called QuakeSat I and weighing about 10 pounds, is scheduled for launch this July from Plesetsk, Russia. Once deployed, it will track 200 sensors placed along major fault lines in the state.

QuakeFinder is a spin-off company of Stellar Solutions, an aerospace engineering services company also in Palo Alto, Calif.
