RAI SETS UP NEW MEDIA UNIT
Italian public broadcaster RAI has established a holding company that will combine its Internet and satellite TV units (Interspace 694). Announcing the initiative on May 8, RAI president Roberto Zaccaria said that RAI New Media said he would like to “start the process of its stock market flotation on the Milan stock exchange by the end of this year.” RAI New Media will encompass the pubcaster’s satellite unit RAI Sat, its Web division RAI Net, its nascent software company RAI Bit, as well as RAI’s 60 per cent stake in e.Biscom Video Portal, its joint venture with local Internet provider e.Biscom, which aims to create Italy’s first video and audio Web portal.
