[Satellite TODAY 07-24-12] Harris CapRock Communications has signed a multi-year agreement with Intelsat to utilize advanced fixed and mobile services on the Intelsat EpicNG platform, the operator announced July 23.

Harris CapRock said it would use the Ku-band capacity on multiple satellites of the Intelsat EpicNG platform to expand its service offerings and offer new applications to its global customers across the energy, maritime and government markets. The service will expand to Intelsat 29e when it is launched in 2015.
The agreement follows Intelsat’s similar EpicNG deal with Panasonic Avionics last week. The Intelsat EpicNG platform, initially comprised of Intelsat 29e and Intelsat 33e, uses multiple frequency bands, wide beams, spot beams and frequency reuse technology. Intelsat 33e will launch in 2016.
“Harris CapRock has thousands of existing locations operating on our global infrastructure. We chose the Intelsat EpicNG platform for its superior design, backward compatibility and high throughput performance, all of which allow us to build upon our current deployments while enhancing our long-term capabilities,” Harris CapRock President Tom Eaton said in a statement. “We looked at a number of emerging technologies that have been receiving a great deal of attention recently, and after thorough analysis we determined that Intelsat EpicNG was the best platform for our customers whose operations require high-performance and maximum network uptime.”
