[Satellite TODAY 07-03-12] Arqiva, the U.K. media infrastructure company, has agreed to a deal which will make it one of the U.K.’s largest Wi-Fi hotspot providers, the company announced July 2.
It has agreed to terms with the Board of Spectrum Interactive, a leading U.K. based Wi-Fi operator, for an offer to acquire 100 percent of the shares for £23.4 million ($36.73 million) in cash.
The deal will enable Arqiva to accelerate its wholesale mobile data business by acquiring a sizeable independent Wi-Fi portfolio, providing a highly scalable platform across the market. “The acquisition of Spectrum Interactive positions Arqiva as one of the U.K.’s largest Wi-Fi hotspot providers and uniquely we would be the only wholesale provider with no associated retail service. We are well placed to help define the Wi-Fi space for all U.K. landlords and business providers, allowing us to individually tailor services for our customers to meet the growing demand for data capacity,” Arqiva CEO John Cresswell said in a statement.
