[Satellite TODAY 05-14-12] MSS satellite operator Globalstar’s 2012 first-quarter revenue dropped to $16.7 million compared to $18.3 million in the first quarter of 2011 due to the termination of its partnership with Open Range, according to its latest financial results issued May 11.

Excluding the partnership agreement, Globalstar’s first-quarter revenue increased 3 percent, or $500,000 million from the same period last year, primarily due to its approximate $1.1 million growth in Spot service revenues.
Globalstar management said it expected its Duplex service revenue to be lower in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, but anticipates Duplex revenue growth later this year as additional second-generation satellites are placed into service.
Revenue from Globalstar subscriber equipment sales in the first quarter of 2012 was $4.1 million, which remained unchanged from the same period in 2011. Globalstar also reported positive adjusted EBITDA of $1.4 million for the first quarter of 2012 compared to negative adjusted EBITDA of $2.5 million in 2011.
