[Satellite TODAY 05-08-12] Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton (D) has signed legislation that will create a special license for satellite system installers that aims to ease the burdens of existing requirements, the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) announced May 7.

The new law will eliminate the requirement of having a low voltage technician license for satellite system installation and replace it with a license specific to residential satellite installation after it goes into effect on Oct 1.
SBCA said it spearheaded the three-year effort to sign the bill into law along with the legislation’s co-authors Minnesota State Rep. Tim Sanders (R) and Minnesota State Sen. John Pederson (R). SBCA also said it worked on the bill with both the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), who were neutral on the bill.
