[Satellite TODAY 05-01-12] FSS operator Eutelsat has granted an approval to SVS Satellite Systems, which will enable the company to use their SDC-120 and SDC-150 auto-pointing antennas with the Eutelsat network, SVS announced April 30.
Eutelsat also will add the two antenna products to its guide that issues recommendations for the selection of the appropriate Earth station equipment to access Eutelsat capacity.
SVS said Eutelsat tested the antennas for RF performance and its ability to auto-point and peak to the Eutelsat satellites. The SDC-120 and SDC-150 successfully passed Eutelsat’s auto-pointing verification tests procedures.
“Interference caused by low quality reflectors and poor mechanics have historically been creating interference problems, forcing satellite operators to set minimum standards and type approvals procedures to be applied to ground stations accessing their space segment,” SVS said in a company statement. “Currently the entire industry is striving towards simplifying the procedures of finding the satellite and the lineup procedures by implementing various methods of auto-pointing. Poor pointing software and inaccurate mechanical solutions have added yet another element of interference, not tolerable to the satellite operators.”
