[Satellite TODAY 04-09-12] Sea Launch has received the Ukrainian-built Zenit rocket that will orbit the Intelsat 19 satellite in late May at the firm’s California home base for final assembly, Sea Launch confirmed April 6.
The Zenit 3SL rocket will launch Intelsat 19 from the Odyssey launch platform, which is a modified North Sea drilling rig. Odyssey is currently moving back to Sea Launch’s homeport from Malaysia after dry-docking for a required 15-year maintenance regimen.
Sea Launch said it expects Odyssey to arrive in Long Beach, Calif., later this month after stopping in Guam to offload an ill sailor and bunker. The upcoming launch represents Sea Launch’s second flight from the ocean-based Odyssey platform since the company was reorganized under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
