[Satellite TODAY Insider 03-30-12] KVH Industries has opened a new testing facility that houses a custom-made hexapod motion simulator and will serve as a dedicated space for advanced motion testing with a clear view of critical satellites, the company announced March 29.

KVH said the satellite observatory is equipped with a custom-designed, curved wall of windows with a perfect view of the satellites that provide TV and communications signals to KVH antennas. The new building is adjacent to KVH’s global headquarters in Middletown, R.I., allowing the company to advance its quality assurance program to provide products for marine, RV, and automobile customers.
“The design and location of the building allow KVH engineers to test products efficiently and thoroughly in a controlled environment,” KVH’s Vice President of Operations Jeffrey Greer said in a statement. “The rectangular shape of the building, with its arced radius of windows, provides a full, clear view of the Clarke Belt.”
Satellites in the Clarke Belt broadcast TV and communications signals from an orbit approximately 22,500 miles above the equator.
