[Satellite TODAY 12-29-11] Hughes Network Systems has filed a letter of intent to seek access to the United States market from its Jupiter Ka-band satellite located at the 97.1 degrees West orbital slot, the company confirmed Dec. 28.
Hughes said the service will operate under a United Kingdom license, providing FSS service to the United States using spectrum in the 18.3 GHz to 19.3 GHz range on a non-harmful interference basis and spectrum in the 28.6 GHz to 29.1 GHz range on a secondary basis.
Hughes Jupiter is a bent-pipe satellite equipped with multiple spot beams. The satellite, scheduled for launch in the first half of 2012, aims to provide more than 100 Gbps of capacity and employ an enhanced version of the IPoS/DVB-S2 standard.
