[Satellite TODAY 11-10-11]  Stratos Global has extended its contract to provide Suncor Energy with a high-speed satellite link connecting Suncor’s Newfoundland operated offshore and shore-based facilities, the company announced Nov. 9. The extended contract will go for another five years. 

Stratos is providing Suncor with a dedicated, 1MB Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC) satellite link between Suncor’s Newfoundland shore-based facilities and the Terra Nova floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility, which is located 217 miles offshore. The link utilizes Telesat’s Anik C-band satellite infrastructure. Stratos has been providing Suncor with SCPC satellite services since 2002.
