[Satellite TODAY 03-28-11] Indonesian telecom Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) is planning to launch its Telkom-3 satellite before the end of 2011, company officials said in a March 25 statement.
Telkom Spokesman Eddy Kurnia said the $200 million satellite is currently being built at the ISS-Reshetney factory in Russia, while Thales Alenia Space develops the satellite’s sub-system.
Telkom-3’s medium-class platform is based on the Express-1000N model and will carry 32 C-band transponders and 10 Ku-transponders. The company said Telkom-3 aims to provide government and commercial services, satellite capacity improvements and enhanced ICT infrastructure.
