[Satellite TODAY 03-21-11] African telecommunications wholesaler Gateway Communications selected Gilat Satellite Networks to be its primary VSAT provider, Gilat announced March 17.
    The strategic partnership will be supported by Gilat’s SkyEdge 2 hub installed at Gateway’s network operations center in Belgium, which deploys cellular backhaul applications, broadband access for telecommunications companies and backbone restoration and rural telephony across Africa.
    In a statement, Gateway COO Phil Braden said the strategic partnership aims to enhance the connections between telecommunication services and mobile and fixed line operators within Africa. “After evaluating the foremost VSAT providers, we established that Gilat offered the optimal combination of superior technology, qualified support and experience in the cellular backhaul market, and complemented our philosophy of market innovation and customer service.”
