[Satellite TODAY 01-27-11] Shaanxi Broadcast, a Shanghai-based digital cable TV network operator, selected Irdeto’s Cloaked Conditional Access (CA) technology to begin testing as part of its strategy to transition over two million Chinese subscribers from analog to digital services, Irdeto announced Jan. 26.
    Irdeto’s Cloaked CA is a renewable, card-less solution that aims to enable pay-TV operators to offer premium high definition content without the logistical costs of deploying and swapping physical smart cards.
    The move by Shaanxi to trial the Cloaked CA is a result of a 2010 Chinese State Council directive to transition three million county-level subscribers to digital services. The transition will be expanded to 11 cities and regions for four million subscribers’ cable TV systems in 2014.
