[Satellite TODAY 10-11-10] SES Astra signed a satellite broadband deal with the AVC Group to deliver the Astra2Connect service to AVC’s business customers in the United Kingdom, especially those involved in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for remote operations.
    In a statement, AVC Group Director John May said his company would target the service to customers that use telemetry as an essential element to their business. “Wherever a permanent or portable unmanned remote monitoring station is located — the top of a mountain, an oil platform or a remote headland — an Astra2Connect system is the ideal solution for data gathering in isolated locations, which often don’t have terrestrial links because of prohibitive costs. Satellite offers a cost-effective, easy and quickly installed option that has the least impact on the environment.”
    Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
