[Satellite TODAY 11-24-09] The Intelsat 14 (IS-14) satellite was launched onboard an Atlas 5 rocket provided by United Launch Alliance, Intelsat announced Nov. 23.
    The IS-14 spacecraft carries a hosted payload for Cisco Systems’ Internet Router in Space (IRIS) program, which aims to merge communications received on various frequency bands and transmit them to multiple users and support network services for voice, video and data communications for the U.S. military.
    IS-14, built for Intelsat by Space Systems/Loral, aims to provide high-powered data services through its C- and Ku-band payload to customers throughout Latin America, Europe and Africa. IS-14 will replace Intelsat’s 1R satellite at 315 degrees East.
