[Satellite TODAY 10-01-09] TerreStar Networks signed an agreement with AT&T to bring its new integrated satellite cellular smartphone service into market, TerreStar announced Sept. 30.
The TerreStar solution will combine AT&T’s wireless connectivity with TerreStar’s all-IP satellite network as back-up, to provide voice and data service throughout the United States and Caribbean region.
TerreStar is marketing the service along with its Genus smartphone, a 3G hybrid satellite-terrestrial handset. The device features a touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a “Qwerty” keyboard.
The agreement follows the launch of TerreStar-1 on July 1. The first end-to-end call over the satellite was made on July 20.
