[Satellite TODAY 08-20-09] Comtech Telecommunications Corp. no longer will market some of its fiberglass antenna products to its commercial broadcast customers as part of a company cost-reduction effort, Comtech announced Aug. 19.
The company’s sale of assets and liabilities relating to its Tiernan-branded video encoder and decoder product lines to International Datacasting Corp. (IDC) for $2 million, announced Aug. 18, also was part of the cost-reduction initiative, Fred Kornberg, president and CEO of Comtech, said in a statement.
“As fiscal 2009 came to a close, we initiated these actions to further focus our efforts on product lines in which we have clear market leadership positions. We look forward to the release of our fourth quarter and full-year fiscal 2009 results and we continue to be optimistic that fiscal 2010 will be a year of strong revenue and EPS growth for Comtech,” said Kornberg.
Comtech acquired Tiernan’s operations when it purchased its parent company, Radyne, in August 2008.
In an interview with Satellite News, IDC’s Tracy Trottier and Edward DiCarlo discuss the behind-the-scenes developments of the Tiernan product acquisition and what developments the broadcast sector can expect in the future.
