[Satellite Today 06-05-09] While Comtech Telecommunications reported growth in its telecom and RF microwave segments, its mobile data segment experienced significant decline, according to its 2009 third quarter financial report released June 3.
Company revenues declined 7 percent to $128.5 million from the same period in 2008, and EBITDA margins dropped 9 percent to its lowest level in more than six years.
Comtech said order delays in its mobile data segment, where revenues dropped 54 percent from 2008, were the primary cause of the company’s revenue and profit decline. The delays were caused by reduced volumes in the company’s Tempe, Ariz., manufacturing facility, the company said.
Comtech also announced that it would be delaying the delivery of ruggedized MTS tablets to the U.S. military, originally scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter of 2009. The units will now be shipped in the first quarter of 2010. According to the company, the delay could impact 2011 revenues, but should be offset by $110 million in mobile data orders received this quarter.
