[Satellite Today 05-13-09] Loral Space and Communications reported a slight decrease in combined segment revenues, including both its satellite manufacturing and satellite services segments at $381.7 million, a $4.6 million drop from it’s figures from the same quarter in 2008, according to the company’s first quarter 2009 financial results released May 12.
    Loral reported net loss of $10.8 million compared to a net loss of $71.2 million for the first quarter of 2008, and ended the quarter with $109.0 million in available cash. The paid $55 million of loans in the quarter that were due at the end of December.
    Space Systems / Loral (SS/L) reported revenues before EBITDA at $216.5 million compared to $219.8 million in the first quarter of 2008. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter for the manufacturing segment was $10.4 million, which was up from $4.7 million for the first quarter in 2008. As of the end of March, SS/L said its backlog was $1.22 billion.
    Telesat revenues for the quarter were $165.2 million and adjusted EBITDA was $114.9 million compared to $166.5 million and $99.4 million, respectively, in 2008. The company said its performance in the quarter 2009 is a result of Nimiq 4 and increased utilization of the international fleet.
    Telesat said its backlog is $4.24 billion at the end of March.
