[Satellite Today 03-12-09] International Launch Services (ILS) has been contracted by ViaSat to the launch the ViaSat-1 satellite on an ILS Proton in the first half of 2011, ILS announced March 11.
ViaSat-1 is a Ka-band spot beam satellite, which the company expects to be the highest capacity of all current and planned North American satellites with 10 times the throughput of any other Ka-band satellite. ViaSat-1 aims to provide broadband Internet services to customers and businesses across North America.
The satellite is under construction by Space Systems/Loral.
