[Satellite Today 02-18-09] Stratos Global rolled out its StratosNet Accelerator, a free Internet-optimization application that aims to help customers reduce airtime costs required to operate BGAN, FleetBroadband and SwiftBroadband mobile satellite services, Stratos announced Feb. 17.
    StratosNet Accelerator is an addition to the company’s suite of value-added mobile satellite services. Once downloaded to a computer, StratosNet Accelerator operates by utilizing data-compression techniques, reducing the amount of e-mail, Web and FTP data transmitted between terrestrial and mobile terminals by more than 80 percent.
    “The introduction of StratosNet Accelerator demonstrates our commitment to minimize the operating cost and maximize the effectiveness of our wide range of mobile satellite services,” Stratos President and CEO Jim Parm said in a statement.
