[Satellite Today 02-10-09] Globecomm Systems has seen a decrease in revenues and profits for the second half of 2008. This was one of the highlights of second quarter and half year results to Dec. 31, the company issued Feb. 9. The company had revenues in the second half of 2008 of $82.3 million, down close to 15 percent compared to the same stage in 2007. Net profits for the six months to the end of December were $1.8 million, also down compared to the same stage last year.
Its infrastructure solutions business particularly suffered. For the last six months of 2008, this side of the business generated $44.9 million in revenues, down over 30 percent compared to last year. However, it was not all bad news. Revenues from its service division, the smaller part of Globecomm’s business, increased year-on-year over 20 percent to $37.5 million.
However, David Hershberg, Globecomm CEO, is confident that the company can turn things around. He said, “Although we are disappointed by our results at this point in the current fiscal year due to delays in certain anticipated infrastructure bookings, we are encouraged by the recent bookings levels as reflected in our recent announcements and the performance of our service business.”
