[11-02-07 – Satellite Today] Globalcom Satellite Communications has introduced a new satellite messenger with a satellite GPS personal locator, the company announced Nov. 1.
The Spot Satellite Messenger weighs 7 ounces and can be carried in a backpack. The GEOS International Call Center answers emergency calls and can route search and rescue personnel to a user’s GPS-provided location within 5 to 10 minutes with an accuracy of up to 20 feet.
The system, which has a 99.4 percent reliability, has a waterproof case and has been tested to work in extreme temperatures, Globalcom said.
