Hughes Helps Connect Siberia, Outside World

[09/05/07 – Satellite Today] Hughes Network Systems LLC is providing remote areas of Siberia with remote satellite terminals, the company announced Sept. 4.

Hughes is providing the technology to Iskra Research and Development, of Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Iskra will support a wide range of Web applications, VPN services, Voice over IP (VoIP), videoconferencing and broadcast and multicast applications using an HN NOC and 500 HN7000/7740 remote satellite terminal.

Iskra supports government agencies, large enterprises, small to medium enterprises and telecom operators located in remote areas of Siberia, who don’t have access to a well-developed terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure.
