Global Marine, Hughes, Orbit Technology Unveil New Maritime Offering

[8/22/07 – Satellite Today] Global Marine Communications Ltd, Hughes Network Systems LLC and Orbit Technology Group Ltd. completed interoperability testing and sea trials of the Hughes HN series of broadband satellite modems and specially-adapted marine stabilized satellite antenna, Hughes announced Aug. 22.

Global Marine will offer three levels of service for the maritime market beginning in Europe and the Middle East.

“The Orbit stabilized antenna operates very effectively with Hughes satellite terminals, providing affordable broadband access for the maritime and oil and gas industries at download speeds of 2 megabits per second or higher,” Keary Cannon, vice president of marketing and sales for Hughes Europe, said in a statement. “GMC can offer a variety of dedicated or shared bandwidth options using our Ku-band coverage.”
