CesiumAstro plans to expand to Florida with an announcement this week to build an engineering and manufacturing facility in Melbourne on the Space Coast. The facility is expected to add 100 new jobs to the region over the next year.

This comes amid a period of rapid growth for CesiumAstro — the company raised $270 million earlier this year and it is building out a new large facility near Austin, Texas. Cesium recently launched its first full satellite, Element-1, built on the company’s own phased arrays, software-defined radios and processors. It also made three recent acquisitions to add capabilities in semiconductor design, signal analysis, and software.

The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast (EDC) announced the expansion on Oct. 15, saying it will strengthen the region’s space ecosystem.

“Melbourne gives us direct access to the Space Coast’s aerospace talent and infrastructure while adding dedicated engineering and manufacturing capacity close to the customers and missions we support,” commented CesiumAstro COO Brett Paulson. “Our Melbourne team will develop, integrate and test new space and defense technologies, building on the capabilities we’ve brought together across the company.”
