[Satellite TODAY 02-07-11] Barrett Xplore activated its 4G wireless network in Quebec under the Xplornet brand, the company announced Feb. 4
The terrestrial wireless network will be complemented by the launch of two new 4G high-throughput satellites — Viasat-1, which will be launched this year, followed by Hughes-Jupiter in early 2012.
Barrett announced the creation of the hybrid terrestrial and satellite 4G satellite Internet service in October. The network aims to provide customers with three-to-10 times more bandwidth than a 3G HSPA wireless service.
Barrett said it plans to offer 4G services in all of Canada by the end of 2012.
