[Satellite TODAY 06-02-10] Venezuelan telecoms operator CanTV has signed a deal with China Digital TV Holding Co. (CDT), which will see the Chinese company install various systems and solutions on CanTV’s DTH satellite platform, CanTV announced June 1.
The DTH platform will begin beta testing in the third quarter and be fully operational in early 2011. CanTV expects to cover the entire territory of Venezuela, servicing more than 600,000 paying subscribers, by 2015.
The transaction marks one of the few international deals for CDT, as most of its business is in China. The company had revenues in the first quarter of 2010 of $14 million and also shipped about 2.6 million smart cards during the quarter.
“China Digital TV’s excellent security technology, anti-piracy solutions and high-quality service enjoy a high reputation among industry players in the China market. We are very confident in our partner’s ability to provide the advanced technologies and solutions necessary for the success of our groundbreaking DTH project,” CanTV  Manager of Multimedia Operations Alfredo Munoz said in a statement.
