[Satellite TODAY 04-12-10] Protesters from Thailand’s Red-Shirt anti-government movement broke into operator Thaicom’s satellite compound April 9 after a confrontation with the facility’s military security force, the operator announced.
According to Thaicom, several policemen and protesters were injured during the confrontation and the facility’s security personnel evacuated the site after protestors issued a 30-minute ultimatum demanding that the military withdraw from inside by the compound by 2:40 p.m. local time.
The protestors said their goal was to pressure the government to resume broadcasting PTV, a Red-Shirt channel, through ThaiCom satellite. Thai government officials are now planning to retake the compound with additional security.
