The U.S. Air Force awarded Harris Corp. a six-month, $1 million contract to complete a concept development study to incorporate the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) environmental satellite data into the Air Force Weather Weapons Systems strategic centers.

NPOESS is used to collect global atmospheric, oceanic, terrestrial and near-space environmental data or U.S. civil and military users. The Air Force will use the information from Harris’ results to determine the appropriate configuration to integrate the NPOESS into the strategic centers.
