Italy-based Eurimage, Digitalglobe‘s European business partner, has signed a contract with the European Commission‘s (EC) Joint Research Center to supply satellite imagery over a four-year period, Digitalglobe announced May 25.

The Joint Research Center will use 60-centimeter imagery collected by Digitalglobe’s Quickbird satellite as well as Landsat spacecraft and Digitalglobe’s planned Worldview satellite, scheduled to be launched in mid 2007.

The data primarily will support the Control with Remote Sensing campaign, which is focused on supporting the EC’s Common Agricultural Policy. The reform is intended to improve agriculture management and control systems, and to prevent agricultural subsidy irregularities. The imagery also will be used to support Security and humanitarian aid programs.

Digitalglobe’s share of the contract is valued at $7.7 million.
