MSNBC reported late Feb. 15 on its Web site that Russia appears to have abandoned the search for a spy satellite that has not been seen since returning to Earth Jan. 9. The report said amateur satellite trackers determined the satellite was intentionally de-orbited, but its fate following the de-orbit is still unknown. The satellite was launched Sept. 24, 2004 and was reportedly used to maintain a watchful eye on U.S. strategic arms development.
