Telesat Raises Annual Earnings By 18 percent
Telesat Canada, a satellite communications operator, reported that its 2004 profit rose 18 percent on a 5 percent revenue increase. Ottawa-based Telesat, which owns and operates satellites covering the Americas, said its net earnings for the year were $85.2 million, up from $72 million in 2003. Annual revenue rose to $362.1 million from $344.5 million in 2003.
Company officials also announced plans to launch Anik F1R in the third quarter. The European-built satellite is currently undergoing testing by EADS Astrium in Toulouse, France, and is on track to replace the Boeing-built Anik F1, whose on-board power is fading.
