Russian News Agency Novosti reported Jan. 31 that a recent satellite purchased from Russia for $132 million will be used for civilian purposes, specifically telecommunications and earth observation. The satellite, named Zohre, will have no military purpose, a Russian Federal Space Agency official was quoted as saying in the report. The satellite is expected to be launched aboard a Soyuz rocket in 30 months.
