Loral Skynet Exec: HDTV Will Help Fill Excess Satellite Capacity

By Staff Writer | April 20, 2004

LAS VEGAS–High-definition television services (HDTV) offer an opportunity for satellite operators to fill part of their excess capacity during the next few years, said Robert Hedinger, Loral Skynet’s executive vice president of sales, marketing and client services, who spoke on a panel here at the NAB annual conference yesterday. Hedinger said that because HDTV requires additional bandwidth, its use could help to offset the lack of growth for certain other services during the past couple of years. HDTV demand is on the rise, and it will climb further as more programming tailored to that technology becomes available, he added.
