M2sat and Thuraya Satellite Telecommunication are teaming up to offer satellite broadband services of 192 Kbps to the international broadcasting industry and other high-capacity users.

Thuraya’s (Abu Dhabi, UAE) satellite capacity is combined with M2sat mobile broadband platform to offer a new generation of mobile broadband services that triple current satellite data transmission levels, officials of both companies said. Up to 384 Kbps can be achieved by combining two M2sat (London) terminals in leased-channel mode IP connections.

The enhanced mobile data transmission capacity is expected to have a strong impact on the broadcast industry by enabling companies to transmit high-speed data in areas where no other telecommunication networks are available, both companies said. The service also is expected to be a significant boost to developmental, emergency and rescue services, along with other operations conducted by governmental and non-governmental organizations.
