Sky Perfect JSAT has signed a new customer for recently launched maritime service JSATMarine. The company announced Jan. 21 that the cable laying vessel Kizuna, operated by NTT WE Marine, will use SKY Perfect JSAT’s new high-speed maritime broadband service JSATMarine for its communication network.

Kizuna is a cable-laying vessel that was built in March 2017. The vessel can also be used as a multi-purpose vessel for support services at times of disaster recovery. The vessel can load supplies and materials for restoration and transport vehicle-type emergency power stations to disaster area. It also carries emergency mobile base stations that can be used to restore communications.

NTT WE Marine selected JSATMarine’s s 30 Mbps (shore-to-ship) and 3 Mbps (ship-to-shore) speed plan for Kizuna so that its crew can work similarly and take advantage of communication tools. With this significant network upgrade of on-board internet environment, NTT WE Marine expects acceleration in digital transformation and improvement in crew welfare.

Sky Perfect JSAT announced the launch of JSATMarine in October of last year. It aims to be one of the world’s top Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellite-based maritime services in terms of speed.
