GeoEye-2 Enters Baseline Integrated Systems Testing

[Satellite TODAY 10-10-12] Lockheed Martin is progressing through a key test phase for GeoEye’s next-generation imaging satellite GeoEye-2 on schedule and will be prepared for a planned launch aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket in 2013, Lockheed Martin announced Oct. 10.
The satellite is currently in the midst of the Baseline Integrated System Test to characterize the performance of the integrated satellite and establish a performance baseline prior to entering environmental testing. Beginning later this year, Lockheed will validate the overall satellite design, quality of workmanship and survivability during space vehicle launching and on-orbit operations during a spacecraft environment test.
“Our on-schedule execution of GeoEye-2 is direct testimony to our entire team’s talent and dedication to successfully delivering this critical capability for our GeoEye customer,” Lockheed Martin Program Director Allen Anderson said in a statement.
