LeoLabs on Wednesday said the Space Force has awarded the company a $20.7 million contract to deliver a modified version of its Scout containerized space surveillance radar for a “new defense mission set.”
The expeditionary S-band direct radiating array radar system was introduced in April 2025 and the first operational deployment occurred earlier this year, LeoLabs said. The Scout-S was announced in June as a mobile space domain awareness (SDA) tracking radar housed in a shipping container, designed to track objects in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) and Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO).
The new “award provides the opportunity to demonstrate a variant of this system in support of future defense missions,” LeoLabs said.
The California-based company said the Other Transaction Agreement award demonstrates how its strategy of identifying emerging operational requirements before they are finalized and then investing its own funds to develop capabilities to showcase how it can need customers’ needs is paying off.
