[Satellite TODAY 10-03-12] The U.S. Air Force has issued more than 15 contracts under its “Protected Milsatcom Design for Affordability Risk Reduction Demonstration Study” initiative to protect military satellite communications, the Air Force Space Command’s Space and Missile Systems Center announced Oct. 3.
The study will include concept development and component level demonstration, with a goal to determine the feasibility and affordability of using existing and/or narrowly modified commercial protected satellite communication systems to support future protected Milsatcom needs.
The contract winners under the study program are: Boeing; Northrop Grumman; Space Systems/Loral; Raytheon; L-3 Communications; Hughes Network Systems; Lockheed Martin; Orbital Sciences; General Dynamic Advanced Information Systems; Space Micro; Harris, Government Communications Systems; Markham Technology; ViaSat; and General Dynamics.
All work is scheduled for completion by July 28, 2013.
