[Satellite TODAY Insider 10-20-10] GE Satcom hopes its Oct. 18 deal with UAE-based telecoms service provider Du will open up opportunities for expanding GE Satcom’s footprint in the Middle East, Andy Frost, the company’s vice president of marketing and business development, told Satellite TODAY Insider.
GE Satcom will provide its full range of technology to the partnership in order to create network solutions for customers in the Middle East and Africa, including high-bandwidth, low-latency, SCPC point-to-point network connections and broadband hub-based star networks for corporate and government clients.
“The deal with Du is particularly important for us, as it opens doors to customers and opportunities in the Middle East and Africa region that we would not necessarily be able to address on our own,” said Frost. “It also provides Du with a new range of products and services combined with years of experience of designing, building and operating VSAT solutions for the most demanding customers with the highest quality. The main targets for us are corporate and government customers working in the Middle East and Africa region, both Western and from the Middle East, who require reliable and well-managed networked connectivity, delivered quickly and cost-effectively where terrestrial alternatives are not viable.”
GE Satcom’s deal with Du is not exclusive, and the terms of the contract allow GE Satcom to secure other partnerships in the region. Frost said potential partnerships depend on the company’s success with Du and whether other companies fit with GE Satcom’s business strategy.
