[Satellite TODAY 10-12-10] Thuraya signed a contract with Asian telco Chunghwa Telecom, which could open up markets like Taiwan for MSS services, Thuraya announced Oct. 10.
    Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecoms operator, will provide Thuraya’s services in Taiwan and neighboring regions. The main market segments that Chunghwa Telecom will focus on will be disaster prevention, restoration, maritime and global travel.
    In a statement, Chunghwa Telecom Managing Director of Satellite Chang Ching-Tsung said he views these target markets as key customers for mobile satellite services. “Thuraya’s offerings are an ideal communications partner for customers in Taiwan as they are modern. People who require mobile satellite services at sea or on land can easily benefit from Thuraya’s products, which we expect will roll out rapidly.”
