August 19, 1997: The launch of Agila 2 added the Philippines to the list of satellite nations. Designed and built by Space Systems/Loral for the Mabuhay Philippines Satellite Corporation, Agila 2 was launched by a Chinese CZ-3B rocket to provide TV, telephone and data services to Southeast Asia. Agila 1 was lost due to rocket failure. Shaped beam antennas provided C-band access to 20 nations and Ku-band coverage to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Philippines. A C-band spot-beam on Hawaii provided access to the USA
