Intelsat Revenues Climb, Net Loss Declines

By Staff Writer | November 9, 2007

[11-09-07 – Satellite Today] Intelsat Ltd. recorded a 3 percent gain in revenues to $546.1 million due to increased sales of transponder services and managed services, the satellite operator announced Nov. 9. The growth helped the company cut its net loss from $172.6 million in the 2006 third quarter to $42.6 million in the most recent three months.
Total revenue for mobile satellite services and other revenue increased by nearly 56 percent to $25.7 million in the quarter ending Sept. 30. The increase was primarily due to increased revenues from mobile satellite services and satellite-related services, which increased by $3.4 million and $4 million respectively, the company said.
Managed services revenue increased by $14.3 million to $67. million, primarily driven by the growth of Internet-related and network broadband services sold to network services and government customers and by increased managed video services to media customers.
Transponder services revenue decreased by $400,000 to $413.5 million due to unusually high transponder services revenue in the 2006 quarter, while legacy channel services fell $5.4 million to $39.9 million as point-to-point satellite traffic continues to move to fiber optic cables across transoceanic routes.
