Sea Launch placed the Koreasat 5 communications satellite into orbit Aug. 21 for KT Corp. and South Korea’s Agency for Defense Development, Sea Launch announced.

The hybrid satellite, built by Alcatel Alenia Space, will be located at 113 degrees East and will be part of South Korea’s Spacecom System. The spacecraft carries 36 transponders to provide Ku-band services for KT Corp. and Ka- and SHF-band services for providing secure military communications for the Korean defense forces.
