The Kompas-2 satellite is suffering from an equipment malfunction and has not yet reached full power, Interfax reported May 29. The satellite, designed to study atmospheric, volcanic and seismic phenomena, was placed into orbit May 26 by a converted ballistic missile, dubbed Shtil, from a submerged nuclear submarine, according to Itar-Tass. Kompas-2 was developed by the Academician Makeyev Missile Design Bureau.
