Nigeria Plans 2006 Launch For Communications Satellite
Reuters reported Feb. 9 that Nigeria has inked a deal with China Great Wall Industry Corp. to build and launch a communications satellite. Specific specifications of the spacecraft, named Nigeria-Communication SAT 2, were not revealed by the report, other than the satellite is expected to have a 15 years. Reuters reported that the satellite would be used for telecom, broadcasting, intelligence and disaster prevention. The report quoted a Nigerian official as saying the satellite will cost $300 million to build and launch and is expected to generate $200 million in revenues annually.
