Specta Licensing Group Dec. 15 said that France Telecom has granted Gilat Satellite Networks a worldwide license allowing Gilat to use France Telecom’s patented Turbo Code products in Gilat’s SkyEdge DVB-RCS next generation VSAT product line. Financial terms of the licensing agreement were not disclosed.

Turbo Codes are a form of forward error correction products that increase noise tolerance, thus improving the capacity of VSAT networks. This capacity allows satellite providers to increase the amount of data transmitted enabling broadband over satellite services at up to 2 megabits per second in a DVB-RCS system.
